Service overview

What artificial grass involves — and why it matters.

What it is

Premium-pile artificial grass installed on an engineered Type 1 + grano-dust base, ground-pinned at the perimeter, with invisible seams and a brushed-in silica sand infill (or no-infill spec for pet households).

Who it's for

Families fed up with a muddy lawn 9 months of the year, dog owners, holiday-let owners in Littlehampton and the coast who need a presentable garden year-round, and households with shaded gardens where real turf simply won't establish.

When you need it

Replace existing lawn at any point in spring through autumn (winter installs are possible but base preparation slows in heavy rain). Replace an old artificial lawn the moment you see lifted edges, visible seams or matted, flattened pile.

Why professional help matters

90% of artificial-grass failures are base failures. Lay grass straight onto compacted soil and you'll have dips, weed bleed-through and standing water inside one season. A properly built base is the difference between a lawn that looks real for 12 years and one that needs replacing in three.

What happens if you delay

The cost of getting this wrong.

A cheap artificial-grass install will look great for three months, then start telling on itself.

Risks of ignoring it

  • Visible joins running across the lawn after the adhesive lets go.
  • Ripples and waves as the underlying soil settles unevenly.
  • Standing water and pet-urine odour from a base that doesn't drain.
  • Edges lifting because they were never pinned or trimmed into a hard edge.
  • Full re-lay in year three because the original base was wrong.

Common mistakes

  • Laying grass over existing turf "to save money".
  • Using a single layer of sharp sand instead of a Type 1 + grano-dust base.
  • Buying budget grass with low stitch-rate that flattens in a year.
  • Skipping the perimeter timber or paver edge that holds the pin line.

Our process

How we deliver artificial grass step by step.

  1. 01

    Survey & material selection

We measure, check drainage and access, and bring samples so you can compare pile heights, colours and densities in your own light.

  2. 02

    Written quote

Itemised: excavation, base depth, edging, membrane, grass spec, joining, infill.

  3. 03

    Excavation & base

Old lawn stripped to depth, weed membrane laid, MOT Type 1 compacted in layers, then grano-dust screeded dead flat.

  4. 04

    Grass laid & jointed

Grass acclimatised, pile direction matched, seams glued on jointing tape with the join invisible from above.

  5. 05

    Pin, brush & handover

Ground pins on a tight perimeter spacing, silica sand brushed in (where specified), full site tidy and 12-month workmanship guarantee.

Specification & detail

The detail behind a artificial grass job done properly.

Materials, methods and variations — what actually goes into a long-lasting build.

Grass specifications

We install 30mm, 35mm and 40mm pile heights with C-shape or W-shape fibre profiles for upright resilience. Stitch rates of 18,000+ per m² for high-traffic family lawns. Multi-tonal yarn blends (olive, lime, brown thatch) for a realistic appearance under direct sun.

Base build-up

Standard build-up: 75–100mm compacted MOT Type 1, then 25–35mm grano-dust laser-screeded flat, then weed membrane, then grass. Pet specs use a deep-clean sub-base with extra drainage cells. Shaded gardens get a free-drain build-up to handle moss control.

Edges & detailing

Treated timber edge boards (most common), pressure-treated battens, or finish into existing paving and patio edges. Curved beds are cut and pinned to the contour. All seams are joined with seam tape and PU adhesive — never just pinned.

Pet households

We specify zeolite infill or no-infill anti-bacterial grass for dog owners, with a permeable build-up that flushes odours through the base. The result is a lawn you can actually live with long-term.

Aftercare

Brush quarterly with a stiff broom against the pile direction to lift the fibres. Rinse occasionally with the hose. Reapply silica sand infill every 5–7 years on high-traffic lawns. A 12-year realistic lifespan with this care.

FAQ

Artificial Grass questions, straight answers.

Still unsure? Call 07743 066824 for a same-day answer.

How much does artificial grass cost in West Sussex?+

Priced after we see the lawn — in person or from photos with accurate measurements. Free quote, same or next day. Cost depends on grass specification, base depth, shape and access. Pet specs and complex shapes take longer to fit.

How long does installation take?+

A 40–60m² lawn is usually completed in 2–3 working days from excavation to brush-in.

Will it drain in heavy rain?+

Yes — our standard base build-up drains faster than natural turf. The grass backing itself is perforated, and the grano-dust + Type 1 sub-base channels water away.

Is it safe for dogs?+

Yes. We use anti-bacterial infills and permeable adhesives in pet households. Hose it down occasionally and you'll have no odour issues.

How long does artificial grass last?+

A correctly installed premium-pile lawn realistically lasts 10–15 years before pile flattening becomes noticeable. Cheaper grasses on poor bases fail within 3–5.

Can you install over an existing patio or balcony?+

Yes — we lay onto sound paving and balconies with a shock-pad underlay and trimmed perimeter for a clean, drainable finish.

Are you insured for artificial grass work in West Sussex?+

Yes — £5m public liability and £5m employers' liability insurance. We'll happily share the certificate before you sign. Every job comes with a 12-month workmanship guarantee. If something's down to our work, we'll come back and put it right. What it can't cover is the stuff outside our control once we've packed up and gone (like a slab getting chipped by a dropped plant pot). If it's our workmanship, it's covered.

Do you give written quotes for artificial grass?+

Yes. We price every artificial grass job after seeing it — either an in-person visit or photos with accurate measurements. Quotes are free and back to you the same or next day. We don't publish fixed prices online because every job is different.

How do I pay?+

Cash or bank transfer. A small booking fee (around £50) holds your spot in the diary. A 50% deposit is due about a week before we start, with the remaining 50% on completion. No large upfront deposit.

Are you open at weekends?+

Yes — we're open 7 days a week and respond same day, whichever day you call.

How quickly can you start a artificial grass project?+

Artificial grass work is typically scheduled within a few weeks of accepting the quote, sometimes sooner for smaller jobs. We work year-round.

Do you work outside Littlehampton?+

Yes — we regularly work in Worthing, Angmering, Chichester, Lancing, Rustington, East Preston, Brighton and the wider West Sussex. Postcode confirms eligibility in seconds on the phone.
